Complete non-sequiter to the photo, but:
Eli, who is in Kindergarten, showed me some of the sign language he learned at an assembly the other day. Actually, there were some he learned and others he made up, such as the one that connotes “peace and war.”
But he did say that he learned one that meant “quiet,” and so I asked him why deaf people would need a word for quiet.
His answer, I thought, was quite appropriate, and I must say I learned something from it.
He completely ignored me.
